Decommissioning Unit Manager - Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc.
Summary Description of Job:
This position is responsible for directing and managing the resources assigned to the Decommissioning Program and is the principal technical liaison for decommissioning work. This position is responsible for establishing and controlling the program budget and schedule and ensuring performance meets NFS and customer objectives.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Provide management leadership and technical direction to Decommissioning management and staff. Resolve conflicts as they arise and assist project management in problem solving.
2. Ensure decommissioning activities are planned and executed to comply with procedural, regulatory, and union contract requirements. Establish and execute program tasks, set priorities, make assignments, and follow-up to assure the task objectives are met.
3. Control decommissioning costs and schedules. Prepare and document cost estimates, budgets, and spending projections. Monitor and report program costs and schedule status using earned value techniques.
4. Integrate and motivate personnel with diverse expertise and functional responsibilities and develop coordinator and cooperation to successfully meet project objectives. Manage multi-discipline tasks involving personnel both inside and outside the Decommissioning Program. Make program decisions based on varied and often conflicting information, objectives, and opinions.
5. Motivate and influence Decommissioning personnel to improve safety performance and procedural compliance in all program activities.
6. Motivate and influence Decommissioning personnel to actively participate in program self-assessments and stretch for continual performance improvement. Promote team building and professional development.
7. Serve as technical liaison for communications between customer and NFS project and functional management. Manage decommissioning interfaces with functional disciplines and support services to achieve program objectives. Resolve conflicts as they arise.
Education:
B. S. - Engineering or Technical discipline (preferred).
Experience Requirements of Job (Beyond educational or equivalent):
Over ten years' experience with B. S. degree. Ten years' nuclear industry experience in environmental, engineering, waste management or decommissioning areas. Broad working knowledge of radiation protection, material control & accountability, criticality safety, and license termination requirements required. A minimum of five years' experience managing environmental, decommissioning or engineering projects. Experience in project planning, budget preparation, and earned value analysis. Team leadership, initiative, and decision making abilities acquired through experience are essential for success.
